Do you use sunscreen or tanning lotion?

What SPF do you use? Why that SPF? Do people with darker skin tones wear a lower SPF?

I know the standard is 15 but I don't seem to tan or burn in the sun unless I'm outside for hours. So I wear an SPF of 4. Is that unhealthy?

Do you use sunscreen or tanning lotion?
SPF is based on how long it takes you to burn in the sun... Without sunscreen.. if you burn in 12 minutes.. then if you put an SPF of 30 on your skin it will take 360 minutes or 6 hours for you to burn. This is assuming alot of things..

First of all.. you are told to reapply sunscreen often so it is said that an SPF higher than 30 is essentially useless.

Suntanning lotion actually promotes the absorption of sunrays to speed up tanning.

Also there's two kinds of rays UVB and UVA.. UVB burns you and UVA causes premature aging. They have not developed a really good UVA protectant yet despite what advertising tells you. So all this "prevent premature aging" is not all it's cracked up to be.

Also there are two types of sunscreen.. mineral (zinc oxide) and chemical (the benzone stuff).. Some tests show that the chemical sunscreen can absorb sun rays and in some cases promote skin cancer.

I suggest you look into sunscreen further.. it is not as easily defined as the market suggests.
Reply:I wear Tanning oil that also protects with a protection factor of 6
Reply:SUNSCREEN. unless you wanna get BURNT. tanning lotion is made to attract the sun,, the sun will be attracted,, but you dont always know if it will make you tan.. hope i helped!
Reply:tanning oil does the same thing as cooking oil, it basically fries your skin when the sun hits it (or makes it easier to tan). I usually use sunscreen or suntan lotion of about 30-45 spf because all the spf is doing is blocking the harmful UV rays from entering your skin while the sun is still giving you the tan. You cant stop your skin from tanning anymore or less by wearing it. Now with darker skinned people they shouldn't treat their skin any different. Just because its darker doesnt mean it behaves differently or becomes affected unlike light skin, its still skin. They should wear a protective sunblock too since sun is actually absorbed into darker colors easier. Just like if you wear a black shirt on a hot day, youll become hotter than if you wear a white shirt.
Reply:I wear sunscreen with SPF of 30...the sun here is bad. Australia has the higest skin cancer rate in the world. I wanna protect my skin. When I'm in South Africa I'll wear 20-25...the sun's not that bad there.
Reply:I use SPF 30 and up. I just don't want to look like a prune long before I have to. It is bad enough as it is.

I have used and will use cosmetic tanning. I have used several and many are very good. I don't use it on my face and neck because it accents my freckles. Looks really bad.
Reply:i wear sunscreen only when im going to be outside in the sun for a longgggggggg time. if im just going to lay out for awhile i wear tanning oil.. and once i have a tan, i never burn... so i just wear tanning oil w. some spf in it.
Reply:Neither... I use cherry motion lotion. I promise you it is much better then drying out and cracking in the sun.
Reply:You should at least have 6.
Reply:I don't use either one. When I was in Hawaii, I never used either and let me tell ya, they stopped calling me a "howlie" after a couple weeks of surfin'...! But that was years ago, when teh sun wasn't as close to earth ;)

I don't stay out long enough to burn, so no need for screens... besides, I thought melinoma wasn't quite the way I'd wanna go... ;[

""melenoma cancer - or skin cancer.

If you get burnt by the sun, often, especially when young, the risk of developing melinoma later will increase.....""
