Is it worse to tan in the sun or tanning bed?

Apparently the u/v effects are stronger in a tanning salon. So both are bad. You can safely tan by applying sunscreen with 20spf tanning lotion and bake for only 15 minutes on each side each day, In natural sun. But a lot of people would recommend not to do any. Fake tanning supposed to be the safest.

Is it worse to tan in the sun or tanning bed?
apparently you have not watched Final Destination III.
Reply:tanning bed
Reply:tanning bed is worse as the sun does give you vitamins, although only one type.
Reply:i think theyre as bad as each other,if you're in the sun use suncream
Reply:yuk. stay out of the sun if possible. you'll regret it when you get to 35 + and your skin is 20 years older than it should be.

You want to look 20 at 30, not look 40.
Reply:do what suit you better
Reply:I seem to remember something I read once, it said sunbeds were safer because they filtered certain harmfull rays.
Reply:both are bad!
Reply:I live in australia so for me the sun is far worse (hole in the ozone layer :( )
Reply:I'm aware that tanning is bad. OK! From personal experience, I have found that it caused much less skin damage when I used a tanning bed than the real sun. But, when you are in a tanning booth or bed those rays don't just stop at your skin, They go on through to your organs and i'm pretty sure those little glasses will not stop you from getting cataracts. I'm pretty sure the fake and bake is worse for your health. Keeping that in mind from a vanity point of view fake and bake is quick and easy.
Reply:oh tanning bed is the last option for you to consider..since it has 2 major con's - it gives your unnatural tan, orange and it gives more damage to your skin. Just run to the beach and get a healthy looking tan..since summer is near and the temperature is rising up. don't forget to put on sunscreen :D
Reply:tanning beds r bad...

Tanning Lotion...Australian Gold Beach in a Bottle.. anyone tried it?

Anyone tried Australian Gold Beach in a Bottle? Is it any good, does it work? Can you use it for an all over body application? Just scared of what to use b/c everything makes me look horrible. Thanks for the answers. :-)

Tanning Lotion...Australian Gold Beach in a Bottle.. anyone tried it?
Don't know about that one, but "Believe" is really good. I'm fair skinned so I have to be careful with what I use. It works well and smells pretty good too. Good luck!

What is some great tanning lotion to use outside to help with tanning darker quicker?

Use a bronzer lotion that you put on and then an hour or two later its a litter darker tint, you can get it at your local tanning booth.

How do these sunless tanning lotions compare in creating dark deep tans: Fake Bake, St. Tropez, Neutrogena?

Fake Bake and St. Tropez don't have different levels like Neutrogena (light, medium, deep). I've used Neutrogena deep and it gets pretty dark. Do Fake Bake and St. Tropez get as dark or darker? The light and medium sunless tanners really don't make a difference on my skin.

Secondly, how do the scents compare? Neutrogena doesn't smell great. I can't wait to shower the scent off. I'd like to try St. Tropez or Fake Bake if they get at least as dark.

Please only answer if you've tried one of the above mentioned.

I use a L'oreal one, in a spray and it is excellent, there is another one that is a bronzer, and that is excellent. Try those if you get them where you are.

How do I get rid of self tanning streaks and patches?

I used self tanner, and i have streaks and patches an dthey look gross =/ ... also, how do i spread it more evenly?

How do I get rid of self tanning streaks and patches?
Stop using self tanners. They are prone to looking streaky. If you are not going to do that then exfoliate your skin prior to using self tanner and use a self tanner that you can see where you are adding it. Some products look a certain color, so you can tell what you are doing.
Reply:I heard lemon juice helps, but it might remove a majority of the color.

What is the best way to get tan without using a tanning bed or spray on tan?

Is there a good brand of lotion or another product that is affordable and doesn't turn you orange? Please have it be available at drugstores.

What is the best way to get tan without using a tanning bed or spray on tan?
Dove® Energy Glow™ Daily Moisturizer with Subtle Self-Tanners

works for me.

the soaps worked even better for tanning

the moisturizer is about $7-$9 at drugstores(less at walmart)

the soap for 3 bars is about .....$4 or so

bring enough for both

but if you can only get one, get the soap (you'd use it more and it works better)
Reply:go tanning in the sun or use sumthing like jergins natural glow. hope this helps sweetie.
Reply:One word........... SUN! ......Winter time? Sorry!
Reply:either use the SUN or use a lotion that gradually makes you darker, like sublime glow or jergens natural glow.
Reply:makeup, or this lotion from i think St Ives that you put on everyday and it will make you tan... just dont do too much on your feet cause it makes them REALLY dark.. adn it doesnt make you orange :)

Tanning salons...?

if you have ever been there can you tell me what you have to do and what happens and what do you need to wear...and what were your results??

Tanning salons...?
yes let me tell you. i use to go to tanning beds.i looked great. had a beauitful tan year round.and as we all know every one looks better with a tan right? theres one thing that will ruin a good tan.its called CANCER. now i have a huge hole and a huger scare where they had to remove half of my back. skin cancer is one of the fast growing and most deadly cancer you can have. my cancer can come back at any time. i worry every day about that. if you thing im trying to scare the hell out of you then you would be right. take it from me its not worth the risk. spend 20 minutes a day no more then 3 times a week in the sun. what ever color you can get from that is safe. STAY OUT OF THE TANNING BEDS. oh by the way i was not one to over use the beds. i only went 2 some times 3 times a week.
Reply:DONTTTTTT DO IT!!!
Reply:You don't wear anything in the tanning bed. BUT YOU MUST invest in the tanning bed sun screen or else you'll fry your little **** off.

The results are being tan, obviously. It take a few trips for you to actually get a decent tan.
Reply:Hi :), well usually you wear lingerie or just go nude, and wear eye protectors, they do work well, but they are best for a one off or two off basis, because they are very dangerous and have been known for causing some forms of skin cancer because of the uv radiation.
Reply:DO NOT tan. I tanned as a teenager and I'm now 29 I can already see wrinkles appearing around my eyes and it sucks. As far as I can tell they are from the tanning because I exercise, eat right and don't smoke. Having darker skin is so not worth wrinkles (or skin cancer for that matter).
Reply:I know that tanning your skin in those things can give u skin cancer so I would not even try especially if your skin is very white %26amp; sensitive
Reply:Tanning salons are bad. Sunbeds are very bad. The results are after only five minutes, you go red and blothcy. Plus, it damages your skin. spray on tans are not any better. They damge your skin also. If you get a tan now, everyone will know its fake. Wait until summer, and get a tan the good old fashioned way! Don't forget sun tan lotion! 30 SPF min!
Reply:YOU GO IN PAY GET ASSIGNED TO A BED, YOU GO TO THE ROOM I GET NAKED BUT YOU CAN WEAR WHAT EVER YOU WANT AND THEN TAN
Reply:They all are a little different but the one I go to you wear a bikini and bring clothes to change into i usually bring like a light tank top dress and then you just follow whatever the salons instructions are and are usually brought into a room you pay for how long your going and results are ok at first if you do it alot you get tanner
Reply:it works well and it depends hoe long you want to stay in.

but the ones that you spray on are better and safer.
Reply:i actually just got back like 10 mins ago

just go in and tell the person its your first time and they will take you through everything..and if you have any questions...ask

i wear nothing when i go, and after about 3 times in a row i see good results a nice even tan thats not too dark
Reply:well it is a bed like contrapsion that you lay in that has lights. Or some you stand in depending on the model of bed. You can either wear underwear , swim suit or go naked.( i go naked) You go in the room strip down put on lotion( it makes you tan faster) lay there for up to 20mins(in the old school beds) 8 for the newer ones. Then you get dressed and leave. and you have to do this for about a week and then once you get a base tan you can go just a couple of times a week.
Reply:Don't do it, but if you will, here's some tips how to do it smart:

It says the tan develops over a few hours....Im curious to know if its any good....for ten bucks...?

Anyone tried the new Loreal sublime self-tanning mitts?
I love all the Loreal tanning products - they don't look orange or fake at all and they are quicker than the Jerrgens.
Reply:Loreal is a good brand but mitts for tanning??? sounds strange..stick to Jergens self tanner instead

Do you get any color when you tan in tanning booth withOUT any tanning booth lotion???

Yes, of course. Just being in the tanning booth will give you a tan. The tanning lotion helps condition your skin, make it softer and sometimes speeds it up. The lotion is really just something they try to sell you. You don't need it to get a tan at the tanning booth, believe me.

For the money, the best thing you can do, however, is go to a good day spa and have them put on self-tanner. It's much healthier for your skin. Just think how much nicer you'll look when you're 60 and your skin looks like you're 45!

Do you get any color when you tan in tanning booth withOUT any tanning booth lotion???
Yes, lotion should only be to protect you though... as far as I know.
Reply:Yes, but the lotion helps to keep you from burning as much and works as a moisturizer. Plus usually it smells good.
Reply:Yes, But i do use it now because they help you stay moisturized. Also, the lotions with bronzers in them will help you retrieve your color faster!
Reply:Yes. You can get a tan without the lotion, but it helps. The lotion is there to boost the tan. It does not protect you in anyway from the rays. Its only purpose is to help the tan develop. You have to be careful if you do use a lotion though because if it has SPF in it, it could harm the tanning bed.

Basically, if you don't want to use the lotion. Don't use it. Your tan will just take longer to develop than if you did use it.

Tanning bed yes or no?

which one %26amp; why

Tanning bed yes or no?
If you want to look like a saddle and die of skin cancer, go for it.
Reply:Health wise, obviously no. But, looks wise yes - a little tan is pretty. There is definitely such thing as too much though, and a lot of people walking around looking orange and unnatural don't seem to know that!
Reply:no- it gives you cancer

duh!
Reply:Tannin beds are ok but try the standin up tannin its cleanner that way. they say tannin is bad for you but i dont know or i have never heard of anyone gettin cancer from it i tan every year for three months straight i am in good health
Reply:nonee

its better not to fake n bakee.

just looks ugly sometimes..

if some saw results.
Reply:Tanning bed is not a good idea as it causes Skin Cancer. Some time in Sun is OK as you get Vitamin E . Avoid Noon time or direct Sun on a hot day.

Good luck!
Reply:Yes, personally I LOVE being tan, you just have to know how to keep it under control. Ask a tanning consultant how long you should go for, at almost every tanning salon you are required to fill out an evaluation to see how easily you burn. Next, make sure you keep your skin healthy by exfoliating daily, and keeping it highly hydrated. Never burn, burning is what causes skin cancer. Last make sure you purchuse some kind of lotion, not only will they help you darken and lengthen your tan, they will protect it from harmful rays. Good luck! "Life is always better tan" :)

Tanning bed go-ers?

What is the best product to use in your opinion?

Tanning bed go-ers?
Ive been tanning for a while now on and off and worked at a salon. Personally, I like Swedish Beauty products. Dangerously Dark is a triple bronzer with hemp it gives you great color, but you can't shower for 4 hours after you use it for the best color. Also Pink Diamonds is good I believe it is a 2 tingle, but I wouldn't suggest a tingle for someone who just started tanning. If your first starting out Ide say you should use Amaretto, deep bronzing treatment with a conditioner. Hope this helps!! Also make sure you wear goggles or peepers (sticker eye covers) they have them at every salon.
Reply:Swedish Beauty holds everything. Intensifiers, tingles, bronzers, extenders. As for a tingle lotion, Pink diamond's tingle power is a 2, Sinful is tingle power 7 it gives you a deep dark color, some others are Hot Amaretto TP10, Bonfire TP30, Unforgiven and Intoxicating TP40. Report It

Reply:Go to swedishbeauty.com if you want to check out other lotions or more information on any of the ones I mentioned. All I ask is make sure you chose a tingle that your skin can handle, Ive seen people use a 30TP and parts of their skin actually burned off. Report It

Reply:alrighty, thanks a lot! Report It

Reply:i like addicted to love it has a slight tingle. not too much. i get WAY dark using that stuff.
Reply:California Tan products. They are very effective. They have everything from bronzers to tinglers. And they vary in price range by product from $20-$100 a bottle so it's affordable on any level
Reply:I quit going after I read that article about all the bacteria.
Reply:STOP GOING 2 TANING

or at least get a spay tan.

Horrible bacteria grows in tanning salons

AND

CANCER
Reply:I am absolutely in love with this line from California Tan called Protenc. You should give it a try! I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do.
Reply:I like Daddy-O
Reply:I personnally hate lotions with a tingle.

i use colorology products. they are great. look them up on yahoo search and their is a little test to find your colorology match.

Tanning moisturiser??

Do these moisturisers that claim to offer "that hint of summer glow" work?

If so, what is the best one? And can you use the same one on your body and face? Do they smell nice?

Tanning moisturiser??
Most moisturizers do work, but they really do only offer a hint. I used to work at a tanning salon, and we would sell products like that, they contained a little bit of DHA (which is the main ingredient in sunless tanner), and you would need to use repeatedly to notice. It would be best to use these products after shaving, because shaving afterward would simply remove the product. You will see a better result with continued use. In terms of your face, both Jergen's and Oil of Olay manufacture products designed specifically for your face. :) Hope this helps!!
Reply:I used the Superdrug brand last year and i got a fabulous tan. I was really happy with the result. Don't think it costs that much either.
Reply:I buy the one from Dove and got to say the product really delivers- it gives you delicate color that builds over time- it’s best to use it every day for few days to get the tan look. It’s not as concentrated as the self tanner so if you mess it up a bit it does not show. The smell is nice too. Jergens also makes this but I absolutely hate the smell of my skin afterwards (smells like you did not shower after tanning in a tanning booth, yuck.)
Reply:I got one yesturday "dove summer glow" smells great , and works can see the difference after one aplication , takes 5 days to reach the best effect !! natural looking tanning and cheap !!
Reply:nivea or dove are good ones as they give u tan over the days ...so even if u mess up a little bit its no big deal ...also they are very soft and good to ur skin and smell nice !

good "tan" ;-)
Reply:I have Jergens and it has a bit of a smell it works but it takes a long time to notice on me but I am fair
Reply:I've tried a few of these products and Johnsons is definately the best. They do ones for body and also one for use on the face. They are quite subtle and give you only a bit of colour, but they make you look and feel brighter!
Reply:I dont like the smell of the johnsons one,the dove smells good
Reply:i use the johnsons one it gives you a really nice glow and leaves your skin nice and soft

doesnt smell too good at first but it soon wears off

not meant to use it on face but i use what is on hands to rub on face before i wash them
Reply:dior has a really good one, it doesnt leave streaks and doesny give to much colour, just a summer glow look.
Reply:Have you tried the one from Dove. It's v good and smells lovely.
Reply:I have tried Johnsons, Garnier and Piz Buin, but the best one I've found is Superdrugs own make. It's really good.
Reply:I have tried the Johnson's one it didn't smell very nice but it worked fine and made your skin soft.

I have also tried the Avon one I can't remember the smell but this worked OK too.

They work best if you exfoliate your skin first.

They need to be used over a period of time to build up the colour and don't forget to wash your hands afterwards so you don't get coloured palms.

It's better to use one especially for your face

Which is better a tanning bed or a tanning booth?

well i go to a tanning booth b/c personally tanning beds scare me but either way works just the same.

=]

Which is better a tanning bed or a tanning booth?
30 minutes in the sun, a much safer and healthy was to tan. those tanning beds and booths can really ruin your skin and give you skin cancer. Even tho the sun can, your supposed to get 30 minutes a day of sun for your skin. if you do that everyday for 30 minutes, you slowly get a really good looking tan.
Reply:by tanning booth, do you mean the fake tan that is sprayed on, if so that is better. if not i wouldnt use either can cause skin cancer and premature ageing.. dont want to look like a cancerous prune later in life do we?
Reply:Stand up tanning booths tan you more evenly than the beds.

However, the spray on tanning is the best, hands down, due to not getting UV damage. It takes some practice to figure out the tricks to not have funny looking hands and feet, but it's SO WORTH IT.

Need to get a tan in 2 weeks using tanning bed!?

I have fair skin and usually always burn in the summer time. I would really like to try to add "some" color to my skin within the next two weeks. I don't expect to have brazilian goddess skin but anything darker than what I have right now. I have never used a bed before. How often should I go and how long should I spend in the bed? Do I use sunblock or the products supplied by the salon?? Any advice would be much appreciated. I know I have a limited amount of time but I want to do this the "smart" way and not pay for it later. Thanks all!

Need to get a tan in 2 weeks using tanning bed!?
yes use a tanning lotion, and go every day or every other. first vist go about 10-12 minutes and build up to 20-25 min.
Reply:you'll pay for it later if you go to any tanning bed, with early premature aging and risk of skin cancer. the best way to go is sunless tanning lotions, apply evenly on your skin every day and you'll get glowing, natural beauty without the cost, time and dangers of tanning beds.

go for jergen or nutragena brand.
Reply:This is just from personal experience but if you're looking to get dark quick I would suggest this: Go to the tanning salon and tan in a bed for the first 13 days. Buy the lotion they have at the salon (it does help you to get a tan faster). Put it on right before you get in the bed. For your first session, do the minimum amount of time (usually like 10 minutes) and with each session stay in the bed for a few more minutes each time till you reach the maximum of 20 minutes. Buy the "insurace" gel from the salon to put on after you tan. It prevents peeling, eases discomfort, and reduces burning. The last session, I would suggest doing the spray tan. Once you have a base tan, the spray tan works great at getting you dark and looking natural with one session. Hope this helps!
Reply:I would reccomend a fake tan, like tan in a bottle. If you do it right, you will look amazing.

St. Tropez is very good. You'll be looking tan without the streaks and orangish color!

You can also try.... This new tanning mit, it's pretty much fool proof, you can pick it up at your Local Pharmacy, it's made by Loreal.

I would avoid the tanning beds, you're more likely to burn then get tan in 2 weeks.
Reply:SAY NO TO TANNING BEDS!!!! I AM VERY FAIR SKINNED AND MY SKIN IS VERY DRY!!! I WENT TO THE TANNING BED RELIGIOUSLY ALL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL. NOW AT 23 I AM NOTICING THE RAMIFICATIONS OF MY CHOICE TO TAN.
Reply:You could use a tanning bed for two weeks straight, but chances are you will burn horrendously if you go in for 10 mins on your first day, then you will spend a week trying to soothe the burn..I'd say 7 or 8 minutes in a tanning booth on your first shot is a better plan.(especially if they have new bulbs!) If you're afraid of burning I would stick to fake tan products- Jergens is one of my favourites.(they have bottles for your face, and your body.) good luck!
Reply:Don't go to the tanning bed especially if you're fair skinned. Bad news for your health. If the salon has one of those Mystic spray on booths try that or do a tan in a bottle. Some of the day spas also do spray on tans (like celebrities get...the good ones not Christina Aguilera's orange tan).
Reply:If you go to a good salon they do a skin evaluation for you and tell you how long you should go your first time, then if you dont burn you can add a few minutes each day. if you do burn wait a day and let it turn to tan before you try again or you will just burn more and your skin will peel. get a lotion from the salon (make sure its not a tingle) and get something to put on after to hold the tan. and put a sticker on your body somewhere when you go so you can see how dark your getting
Reply:ROFLOL. Do you notice all the questions in this section? They're all about trying to remove wrinkles! Why would you do something that will make them come faster!?

The only way not to pay for it later is to use a sunless tanning solution and skip the tanning beds!
Reply:I suggest neutrogena instant bronze %26amp; jergens natural glow.

Tanning is for fake broads, you'll look orange %26amp; in a few years your face will look discusting.

Tanning my body but not my face.?

My face is about two shades darker than the rest of my body and this i dont like. This week i am going to the beach to get a suntan and what i wanted to know is if there was a way i could darken my body but not my face. Like for instance i heard that if i lay in the sun and cover my face with a thick towel will this prevent my face from becoming darker is this or is it not true and is there a way that i could do this.

Tanning my body but not my face.?
wear make up colorer. there are also (hrd to believe) a face tanning thing. like a booth but you put your face in it lol
Reply:put a towl over your face while your tanning. i do that when i tan and it works.
Reply:Yeah you just use a towel or a higher SPF.
Reply:Do a spray-tan. They really work, and you don't have to do your face. You can either go into a salon, or at-home.
Reply:thats true alot of people that tan often sometimes dont want to tan there face so they throw a towel over there faces it works.. you could also wear some thick make up but.. that might be a little gross as long as you cover your face up then it wont tan.. just throw a towel over it.
Reply:Use a very high SPF moisturizer on your face, and only your body will become darker. I wouldn't suggest putting a towel over your face as it can get really hot and sweaty, which will make it difficult for you to breathe.

Help! Can't use tanning bed anymore, is there any tanning lotion out there that does not streak or bleed?

Fake Bake is a fab range that doesnt streak or bleed, iv been using for ages and love it, i use the beyond bronze range and you can buy direct from their website, love it love it love it! ps it goes on really thick like runny chocolate! but you sleep with it on (gaurantee no stain on bed covers!) shower in the morning, it all runs off leaving golden tan!

Why do these 12 year olds go tanning?

im in 7th grade and so many gurls fake tan. why? it looks stupid and orange, and plus u get early wrinkles and possible skin cancer.

Why do these 12 year olds go tanning?
I ask myself this question everyday. What ever happend to regular sun bathing!!??!!??

I agree it's so stupid. I mean ya'll are just in 7th grade!
Reply:because they are trying to be something they re not, the only explaination that i could think of.
Reply:Because their parents let them
Reply:because girls these days are trying to act older than they are, they try to act like their big sister or cousin because they think it looks cool.
Reply:b/c u guys don't give them the time of day that they want and deserve. all u do is look at these pics of gorgeous models that are tan so they think to get u they have to look like that!

Reply:because they see their parents do it or some one they think is cool do it. or lets say they just don't have anything to do.

they need some after school activities like sports.
Reply:They get fake tans because they are self-conscious or they want attention. They can also do it because they dont want to go on trips or simply can afford it. Wrinkles are a risk they have to be willing to take.
Reply:because they are trying to impress people by acting older than they are. your soooo right. dont ever do it, its so bad for you and nothing good comes from it, 7th grade guys dont even care about tans anyway, so i dont know who they're trying to impress
Reply:because they are not happy with themselves. they think that having "darker", but in this case orange skin is beautiful.beautiful is embracing whatever you are, even if you are freakishly pale. it honestly makes my sick. if they are so eager to tan, then they could just use bronzer or something. they have no lives. It is not good for them, and they will pay laterr in life.
Reply:Becuase they want to look cute %26amp; tan
Reply:Because it's glorified by celebrities.
Reply:Because they don't have parents smart enough to tell them that tanning, at such an early age, can cause severe skin problems(cancer) later in life!
Reply:b/c theyre fake and want to act like theyre 15 but dont be like them trust me you dont want to be like them.. stay true to yourself it sounds corny but people will srsly like you for you..be smart it does cause skin cancer..and its so dangerous!
Reply:dont ask there are many girls in my school that are mad on that stuff wen theres no need to its cheap rubbish that will end up ruining your looks and I'm telling ya if that's wot there like now there bound to get worse x they've been tangoed x
Reply:they shouldn't... some places are starting to ban tanning under age 16 and even 18. parents shouldn't fry their kids
Reply:because they think its cool and makes them look good many teens like to look cheap and trashy so dont ever get into it

How many min. do I have to be in a tanning bed for a good tan?

i'm going for my first time in 2 days. How long do you have to be in one for a dark tan? And i'm going to be using just a classic bed

How many min. do I have to be in a tanning bed for a good tan?
The place you are going, for your tan, should recommend the amount of time. You will not tan in one session which is why most tanning salons offer packages. Tanning is usually done over a series of sessions with the time in the machine being increased slightly each visit until you reach the darkness that you desire.

Why not opt for a spray on tan? It is certainly much better for your skin (which will age/wrinkle faster due to the ultraviolet rays) and healthier (no risk of skin cancer). Spray on tans look natural, color is very fast and it lasts from 2 to 4 weeks depending on how well you take care of it.
Reply:the longest the salons will alow you is 15 min if they are lenient 20 is good
Reply:5 hrs.
Reply:u wanna start of onlike 5 or six minutes dependsing on how light u are

if u go for more than that on your first day you will be red for days

once youve been a few times u can work your way up to 15 minutes
Reply:depends on your skin color to begin with. im dark so i can go the full 20 min. if you are pale, you might wanna start off at like 7. ask the ladies at teh receptionist desk and let them know if you burn easily :)
Reply:wow, first time in two days! thats such a long time!

just go on for like 2-3 hours, that'll save you money! lol
Reply:OMG. all those responses are crazy. For your first time dear I would say between 8-10 minutes. If you go any longer, you will be as red as a tomatoe.
Reply:0 minutes... unless you find skin cancer appealing.
Reply:Your first visit you should DEFINITELY NOT stay in any longer than like 7 or 8 minutes, its very easy to burn. You need to start out with low minutes and work your way up to higher.A friend of mine went a couple weeks ago and stayed in for 15 minutes her first visit and the next day she was at the hospital with 2nd degree burns.
Reply:tanning is different for every person, but i would definitly tell you to take it slow because it can effect your health in many ways such as wrinkles and sun spots and thats not a pretty site, so take it slowly and as you keep going each day you will gradually get darker my mom goes for 30min.and that usually does it but if you haven't done it for a while you may get red and burnt so take it slowly and every day you go will gradually make your skin darker..
Reply:You'd have to go more often to get a tan, but I don't recommend it in general. What for?

If you had breast cancer and took chemo can you tan in a tanning bed without harming yourself?

I had a mastectomy Jan/16/05. I took chemo for three months. I want to tan but I'm afraid it will cause problems due to my cancer, even tho they got it all. I am on Femera. (cancer pill)

If you had breast cancer and took chemo can you tan in a tanning bed without harming yourself?
If you don't mind skin cancer.

Reply:You are a glutton for punishment. Be glad you are alive and who cares about a tan.
Reply:Leave the tanning alone. Too much of uv rays can give you skin cancer.
Reply:If I had breast cancer, the last thing I would be worried about is "TANNING". I won't risk it at any time. There are some really great self tanning products on the market now, not like the old days where everyone turned ORANGE.

I personally like the Neutragena brand and the one they sell at the bath stores. True Blue Spa is really good.
Reply:with or without cancer you can not tan in a tanning bed without harming yourself..women that are sun worshipers are prone to skin cancer and early aging.. wrinkles..tanning beds are a false sun complete with all the harmful rays..you have survived one bout of cancer..don't push your luck.
Reply:I am a cancer nurse and totally against those darn tanning beds, but you deserve to do whatever you want to do after what you have been thru. If you want to tan, then take it very slow and don't set the dial more than 5 minutes the 1st time. Take it slow.

Hooray for you feeling like you want to do something positive for yourself. More power to yah!!!!
Reply:even if you haven't had cancer, tanning beds are harmful. They put harmful uv rays into your body
Reply:No. Going through chemotherapy is pumping chemicals through your body. These chemicals can cause lots of changes in your body. Your doctor should have told you to stay out of the sun (real and artificial). Sun damage is much worse if you've been through chemo.
Reply:I was told that women who have had breast cancer are twice as likely to get skin cancer as the average person. I can live without a tan personally... LIVE being the operative word here. I wouldn't risk it.
Reply:NO WAY. Stay away from tanning salons. In fact creams/body lotions are not so great for the skin. You should be thinking about using organic products.
Reply:My experience is that my skin was more sensitive and actually burned more easily right after chemo. I think it was one of the chemicals they used on me though. I could be out 5 minutes and it affected me as though I was out for an hour.

They say a LITTLE bit of sun is good, because the natural vitamin D in the rays of the sun help. If you feel so inclined to tan, please be careful. Never stay out too long; especially the first time. Also, don't go out during the peak ours; 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. I would also use sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UBV and does not have PABBA. One that I know of is Avon.

I really wouldn't recommend "tanning". Just getting a bit of color for a few minutes in the sun from time to time, while being protected against the detrimental rays.

Bottom line, don't lay out to "tan". Just be in the sun when you need to accomplish something that makes you have to be outside. Try to do it early in the morning or later in the day. And use sunscreen UVA/UVB. Wear a hat or use an umbrella. That's about it. Oh, and NO TANNING BEDS - EVER!

Indoor tanning is more harmful to your skin than the sun, which is bad for you already. You risk skin cancer and your skin will age faster and have more wrinkles. I've heard of a tan they spray on your body, like painting your body and that it lasts a few months.
Reply:try the sun

Is it unsanitary to tan at a tanning salon nude?

I think most people do, or tan with very little on. Make sure that there's an anticeptic spray in the room with you and wash that mother hardcore before getting in and after you get out. Because a tanning bed is hot with UV lights, not much will survive by way of bacteria and viruses. But still...if the place looks yucko, don't put your naked body in it. (And here's a plug for not using tanning beds...tanning is so bad for your skin, girl! And check out older ladies who like to tan...they look like a peeled apple that's been sitting around for a month!)

Is it unsanitary to tan at a tanning salon nude?
Not if I watch to make sure the germs don't get on you.
Reply:Tanning salons do the same damage to your body that the sun does. I think they should be illegal.
Reply:I don't think it is unsanitary to tan at a tanning salon nude as long as you know they sanitize their beds very well. Most salons MUST sanitize the beds after each use, and they are really run so much better now than they have in the past that you can almost guarantee that they are doing just that. Ask your current salon what steps they take to insure safe and sanitary tanning. I would also consider the risks that you can take on your most delicate skin though.
Reply:NO. All tanning salons are required by law to provide cleaning

agents to everyone and are required to clean beds after each use. Some places actually leave a bottle of cleaner in the rooms

for you to clean the bed before and after each use. (which is very

wise to do.) My tanning salon cleans the beds after each use

even if you have cleaned it yourself. Ask the salon you are

considering to use what their practices are and if you don't feel

comfortable choose another salon.

What is the best tanning lotion to get a base tan?

Any swedish beauty or Australian Gold product with a bronzer. Australian Gold "Confessions" is a great tanning lotion to start with but in the store you'll pay $70.00 for it (the website at the bottom of this is a wholesale tanning lotion site). The bronzer will give you good color faster. If you are light skinned make sure you don't spend more than a few minutes in the sun while wearing a lotion that doesn't have an SPF factor. If you are not naturally pale then it is safe to spend a little bit longer in the sun initially while building your base.

I live 3 miles from the ocean and surf regularly. I am therefore tan all the time. Being that I have a tan I use straight Johnson and Johnson baby oil when I head out there. It moisturizes and greatly intensifies the suns rays.

http://bestindoortanninglotion.com

The lotion I mentioned above ($70 in the salon) is only $35 on this site... I've used the site before and am not affiliated with them in any way.

Good luck.

Tanning salons dangerous?

Especially for me as I have white skin (red hair). But I do want to get a little red in and white out.

Tanning salons dangerous?
Get some of that body spray and forget the tanning salon. Excessive exposure can cause your skin to become leathery and have premature aging. Ultra-violet also produces greater risk of skin cancer.
Reply:yes. it like sitting out in the sun
Reply:Of course they are dangerous. What's more they wrinkle your skin prematurely and make you (eventually) look ten years or more older than you are. This is permanent damage that can't be corrected, no matter how much oil of olay you use. Just be natural, it's more attractive.
Reply:There‘s an opinion that sunbeds are safer than sun tanning, but it‘s certainly not true. Sunbeds use concentrated doses of ultraviolet radiation. It's the same type of radiation that is produced by sun and is the main cause of skin cancer. It also causes skin to age prematurely. The difference is that the ultraviolet radiation produced by sun is not as concentrated as produced by sunbeds. The more exposure to ultraviolet radiation, the greater the chance of developing skin cancer.

yet, I think if you'll visit just a few times nothing bad will happen

Reply:I know someone who died at the age of 34. She was the young mother of three. During her last pregnancy, she needed to have an emergency c-section because her skin cancer was out of control. They tried to save her life, but six weeks later she died. She was a beautiful woman who just wanted a little color.... Try and use a self-tanner. At least you won't lose your life.

I have been going tanning but I still didn't get tanned. What is up with that?

It's been 7 sessions. Also, I don't use an accelerator or any lotions, could that be?

I have been going tanning but I still didn't get tanned. What is up with that?
mam, u don't need tanning places-they will damage your skin and u could get cancer---plenty of special lotions are made to apply for a tanning loook-please take time to research this, my sister used these places and died from too much exposure-she was very light complected..

good luck and be very careful
Reply:Yes,you definately should use an accelerator.Start off with a medium heat %26amp; work your way up.Your natural skin pigmentation also has alot to do with how dark you get.
Reply:make sure you don't shower for at least two hours after tanning because a tanning bed tans you from the inside out and use an accelerator you can find them with a hot tingle factor or a cool tingle factor...

Is it safe to tan in a tanning bed while you are pregnant?

No, it isn't UV rays are harmful to your skin, that's why it browns. But If those UV rays reach the fetus, it can cause permanent mutations... which would be REALLY bad.

Is it safe to tan in a tanning bed while you are pregnant?
Not 100% sure but the ultra voilet rays can harm so I wouldnt recommend it ... especially in the first 3 months
Reply:NO!!!! Definitely not safe!
Reply:i don't think it is...the UV rays can hurt your baby...so it's not a good idea
Reply:Tanning beds are not safe full stop. They cause skin cancer.

I'm an Aussie %26amp; we are very up to date on skin cancer due to the big hole in the ozone above us....only an idiot in Australia would use a tanning bed. I now live in the UK and everyone uses them here. I have now nursed 4 people dying from skin cancer. The last one was 28yrs old and the cancer started as a small freckle on his thigh spread to his spine and brain.......So stop being so vain and GO pale!
Reply:No way. It should say that inside the sunbed place. The rays can seriously harm/kill your unborn baby.
Reply:I would avoid doing anything even slightly harmful to your body at least for the first trimester. There is no proof that UV rays affect the baby, but there have been some studies that show that greatly raising the temperature of your body during the first trimester could hinder spinal development. You don't want to hinder the development of your baby in any way. Ask your doctor if they think it's safe, but you can find a lot of self-tanners now that are really natural looking and probably safer than cooking yourself. (plus it's better for your skin and lessens your chances of melanoma - afterall you're having a baby and you want to be healthy so you can see that baby grow up)

Tanning outside with a SPF 2 or 4 suntan oil.

Reply:You sound like you LOVE skin cancer. The sun is EVIL!!!
Reply:its the first one.rub it in her face !
Reply:Oil would be faster...it in a sense "cooks" the skin as opposed to water which would block some of the rays...
Reply:Can you swim in a pool above water?
Reply:swimming in a pool underwater
Reply:Tanning outside the water will give you a tan faster...
Reply:underwater is healthier even with sun tan lotion you never want the suns iv rays directly hitting your skin for a long period of time
Reply:Tanning now will make you look 50 at age 35:(

And--much more importantly--will give you skin cancer:(:(
Reply:You can't tan UNDER the water, above the surface will though.

Laying out with tanning oil would probably be faster.
Reply:I think tanning oil, ive been using that and it definitely helps you tan faster. Although it does have some sunblock in it. Never got tan in a swimming pool.
Reply:Both does. It helps get you tan ether way.
Reply:tanning oil is faster but getting your body wet then laying in the sun and keeiping you body kind of wet has always worked better for me.
Reply:tannig with oil you will actual tan, tanning under water with go fast since the sun rays are magnified but you will burn fast under water.
Reply:You should be wondering which one causes cancer and wrinkles faster.
Reply:you could do both- get No ad waterproof taning lotion. But I think the pool is the better choice, because of the chlorine. Chloring makes you tan quick.
Reply:the first one-if you dont get burnt and it peels....
Reply:I'm A Big Fan Of Tanning At The Beach Or At The Pool. I've Found It Easier To Do Both Put On Some Oil And Wait For It To Set Then Go For A Swim. But Make Sure That After Your Swim Not To Dry Off And Don't Bother On Apply'n More Oil Cause Then You'll Burn. Lay In The Sun After You're Swim And Poof! You're Tanned.
Reply:I think you should be happy with with what your skin color is!! Really white or not skin wasn't made to be screwed up with oils!!
Reply:tanning is less dangerous under water or in it because the rays bounce off the water kinda of like looking at a pencil in a glass of water. With the reflection and everything. But it still works I promise! And it is safer! At least try
Reply:my friend in portland oregon when out on a sunny day and she layed out for two hours and she used pan cooking spray and she burnt to aa crisp I asked her if she wanted me to put Lemon and butter on her. OMG LOL that was the wrong thing to say to her hahahaha

but cooking oil works really fast but you are slippery as heck!!!

Tanning Bed Problem? Top lights work but bottom lights wont come on?

My commercial 28 buld bed was working fine Friday night came in Saturday morning and the bottom wont light up but the top seems fine??? Whats the problem and how expensive is it to fix?

Tanning Bed Problem? Top lights work but bottom lights wont come on?
May be that the bottom is connected to the tob via a plug, perhaps this has come loose?
Reply:Because all the bottom bulbs quit at the same time, its probably a bad connection or a switch or relay problem. Est on repair is $100-$400.
Reply:Unfortunately this could be a number of potential problems. your bed manufacturer or your rep should be able to guide you toward a solution.

TAnning beds?

Do they fry your insides? I don't think that is possible but I wanna know what you think...

TAnning beds?
No! they do not fry your insides. Tanning bed bulbs contain UVA and UVB (Ultraviolet Lights), the same is for the sunlight outdoors. And, peoples insides dont get fried by the sun, therefore will not get fried by a tanning bed.
Reply:No they do not fry your insides, its not hot enough in one to do that. Just be careful how long you lie in one, you could get a nasty sunburn
Reply:a girl fron where i live died cause she went to the tanning bed for thirty min twice in one day to look tan for prom, so i would think that it does fry your insides but i have never heard of any proof so i really do not know
Reply:Certainly not. They don't operate with microwaves. Tanning beds can be very safe if they are used responsibly. To go in and intentionally burn is foolish. They can be used to give you a gentle tan that will darken and will actually protect you from nasty outdoor burns. People use them before summer outings and vacations for that purpose. Be sure that the tanners at the salon you choose have a natural looking tan. The old orange-ish tans are mostly a thing of the past, with new bulb technologies, but they still occur. Your tan should be a natural-appearing healthy golden brown.

Tanning problem??

what will turn sunburn brown? will cocoa butter, or aloe vera??can any one suggest anything as ive got a bit of sunburn!

Tanning problem??
Don't do it. In a few years you will develop age spots, blotchy skin and wrinkles. I have an aunt who has tanned all her life and she is as wrinkled as Keith Richards. And she isn't that old. Each sunburn greatly increases your chances of developing skin cancer. A suntan is a sign of damage in itself. If you burn easily you aren't meant to be tan. My best girlfriend is very pale and tried her best to tan when we where teens but she always ended up looking like a lobster. I suggest you use a sunscreen of at least spf 30 especially on your face. Even then you will still develop some color, that is if you tan instead of burn.
Reply:Hi will go brown when the redness fades but any form of moisturiser will help take the redness out and then it will go brown, If you have coco butter or aloe vera then you can deffinalty use this.
Reply:I have that problem. but mine peels then turns white again lol.

The only way i can tan is if i sun bath progressively using different factors of suntan lotion.

In theory though moisturiser should stop you from peeling but it dosent on me soz

Hope i was some help.
Reply:Use any type of moisturizer, for sunburns that includes aloe. It will hopefull help it brown and not peel. Good Luck!

Tanning stickers permanent?

if you get one..then does it stay forever like a tattoo? because i want it for like...awhile but not like till im 30 or something. i just want it for like a few months.

Tanning stickers permanent?
Tanning stickers are not permanent. They only cover the area of skin that is not exposed to the UV rays so you don't tan in that spot. They fade as expose them and continue to tan.

Tanning is very bad for your skin. It can cause skin cancer and premature aging. Please use a sunblock SPF 15 or higher any time you are exposed to the sun.

A good solution if you still want the sun-kissed glow of a tan is using a self-tanner. Also spray-on tans from a salon will give you professional results without the harmful exposure.

You can use a tanning sticker with a chemical tan and it will give you the same results.
Reply:if your talking about the stickers you put on to see how much you've tanned, no they aren't permanent you have to put a new sticker on each time you tan in the same place to keep the image on your skin, otherwise that area will tan as well.
Reply:Tan's fade. So it won't stay forever. Also, to get it away you can just not put the sticker on anymore, and it will tan that area also..
Reply:no, if you want to get rid of it dont put the sticker in the same spot and eventually when your in the sun you can get rid of it...its like a temerary tattoo it will come off...hope this helps
Reply:Tanning stickers are far from permanent.

Just stick one on for a few times when you go the tanner. When you no longer want it, just don't put it on.

Suggestion: get self tanner and place it over where the tattoo was, it makes it show up less if you don't want it anymore.

don't apply too much to your bony areas (ankle, knees...)

those areas get orange too....just put it on lightly.....
Reply:jergens natural glow and olay touch of sun sunless mousterizers seem to work really well for me. use them in reason and wash your hands right after to avoid being orange.
Reply:Tanning lotion is the only other thing I can think of. Try your chemist and definitely ask for assistance from an employee because you can get different sorts for different types of skins.
Reply:you can buy moisturizers that have a bit of bronzer in them. they tend not to give you that awful orange look that tanning creams give and it looks alot more natural.
Reply:I use Bain de Soleil Dark Tanning Creme which works GREAT but comes in a tiny bottle. I'm not going to use it anymore because it is quite expensive. Don't. You will expose yourself to a risk of getting the skin cancer.

How long should i tan for in a tanning bed? ive never been to one and i have sensitve skin?
You shouldn't. It isn't good for you.
Reply:i dont think you should do it because you say you have sensitive skin
Reply:3 mins for the first couple of times and then go to 5 the 7 and so on
Reply:You should only tan about 20 minutes at the most each day. Trust me you'll get very tan.
Reply:With sensitive or fair skin you start out very very slowly with the least amount of minutes. You will want to use a SPF (protection from burning) to protect your sensitive skin. The average person starts out with about 15 minutes for the first session. If I were you, I would start with even less then that, maybe 5 or 10 max.
Reply:If you want to use a tan bed firstly you need the right cream. Do not use any tingle products for a start. Use ones for sensitive skin.

Only use the tanbed for 5-6 mins and increase is slowly to no more than 9-10 mins once a week on an erlogine bulb bed or 'stand-up'. You will maintain a healthy glow with out going orange.
Reply:ahhhhhhhhh that is sooo bad for your skin, when you get older your skin ages a lot faster and you will look really old around your 30's. live with your natural skin, i bet its beautiful. and also you can get skin cancer too. thats not pretty. well also tan skin doesnt look pretty when its fake, natural skin is good.
Reply:Stay in two seconds honey ,no longer or not at all.You were not meant to be in the sun.Be like a vampire come out only at night if you value your life!lol
Reply:Don't! Have someone help you apply a fake tan, or wear a tinted moisturizer. In 20 years time you'll be pleased that you did.
Reply:If you have really sensitive skin you shouldn't even use a tanning bed. I don't tan very well outdoors and my skin usually burns with little exposure. I only use the tanning bed to get a base. If I have that base then I usually don't burn outdoors. Of course you still have to use sun screen. When I use the tanning bed I start out with 5 min and then work my way up to 10 minutes. I go every other day. I'm not dark by any means but I think I have a nice healthy color. I know that they are bad for you and your skin. But I look at it this way, it's not healthy to burn either. When I have a little color I feel better about myself. Don't know why but it works for me.
Reply:do a spray tan. trust me, much saffer and if you get the right on eit will look just as natural

Back when I was young and STUPID and tanned a lot, I used a product called Hot Salsa (my aunt would get it by the case for me) that was one of those tingly lotions. Noticed I said young and stupid. At age 32 I had my first go round with melanoma. If you don't know what it is, or what causes, I advice you google it.
Reply:NATURALLY tanned........so can't help you there, hun ;-)

Tanning beds?
I feel like an expert!

Okay, I own a tanning bed and if you don't lay in it for a long time or haven't been in the sun that much then you don't want to stay in for more than 8 to 12 minutes the first time. Salon tanning beds don't offer the tanning lotion that you need to pretect your skin from UV rays and burning. Go to the drugstore and pick some up. NOT the dark tanning oil, that will kill you if you are just sitting in an oven for 15 minutes, lol.

Look specifically for tanning bed lotion.

Never stay in a tanning bed for more than 15 minutes.
Reply:Tanning bed=Cancer!

Good Luck!
Reply:I would suggest you stay out of the tanning bed until your peeling goes away.It can cause uneven tanning. And apply lotion to your skin to keep it hydrated to prevent peeling in the future.
Reply:tanning beds arent the healthiest way to keep a tan, laying out in the sun is better even thought its still bad, i suggest you only go in the tanning bed like once a week and only go for 5-8 minutes.

If you are just starting your tan they have a level 1, than a level 2. This is the level three and works WONDERS!
Reply:they have it labeled right on the bottle. it says what is made especially for tanning beds.. just read them
Reply:Well, I don't suggest it because you'll get skin cancer + saggy skin.
Reply:I suggest that she doesn't use a tanning booth.

I went to go tanning today for the first time , should I go tanning tomorrow, or wait few days?

id recommend waiting at least a day depending on your skin tone

I went to go tanning today for the first time , should I go tanning tomorrow, or wait few days?
I've never been tanning, my ex did, but wait a few days.
Reply:I laid 3 days consecutively for 5 and the next 3 for 10 and so on until I was at 20. If you burned today...skip tommorrow.
Reply:you shouldnt go tanning at all. it increases your risk for skin cancer and causes premature wrinkling.
Reply:what she said... get the spray on stuff
Reply:15 minutes a day is good. don't overdo, you'll get cancer fer sure. (or rawhide-feelin' skin...)
Reply:marcelline

Reply:go one day skip next and so on.....
Reply:don't you know how incredibly bad tanning is for you even if you only do it once?!?!?!

What is the best tanning lotion to use in a tanning bed?

I have a very fair skin complexion. I can stay in the bed for as long as 15 min but I dont get anything.

What is the best tanning lotion to use in a tanning bed?
~You have very fair skin and you are using a tanning bed. Obviously, you aren't concerned about getting skin cancer in about 10 years. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you won't get skin cancer just because you are using a tanning bed. I won't bother you with my anti-tanning lecture because you won't listen and won't care at your age.

So, let me just say one thing. Skin cancer is a bytch and if you are unlucky enough to get the melanoma type, you'll die. Maybe you'll be lucky and only get the basal cell or squamous cell. You may not die if it's caught in time but the treatment sure sucks.

Been there. Done that. Never again.
Reply:Tanning while you're pregnant! Obviously you haven't read any of the recent medical studies on the impact of tanning on fetuses. Report It

Reply:idk send me a pic maybe i could tell then
Reply:The women at the tanning place can give you an idea based on your skin tone. I use love monkey and it works fine.
Reply:I like Planet Beach Mango Breeze Dark Bronzing Glaze with anti-aging fruiteprime complex because it mositurizes and really accelerates the tan and helps prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It has a bronzer in it so you look darker right out of the bed.
Reply:If you are using a tanning bed, I would read up on tanning bed safety.
