Could you please let me know what lotions or oils to use, what to wear, how long I should go...all that good stuff? thanx
I'm going tanning for the first time. Can someone please let me know the basics to tanning?
Speaking strictly from personal experience. Take it slow and easy. The first time you go for the season, only do half time. Most beds are only 20- minutes, so starting out with 10 would be appropriate. Wait a few days and see how your skin reacts to that before you go back. Until you get your base tan in place, I would go NO MORE OFTEN than twice or three times a week. In a week or two, you can start doing the full time on the bed. As far as lotions or oils, I don't use any because my skin tends to react badly with them, but everybody is different. Here, too, I would take it easy at first until you determine how you will react. I don't wear anything at all when I tan because I don't want any tan lines anywhere. But if you want to wear a bikini or underwear you certainly may. I start tanning for the season in late February, and keep it up until around October. That gives my skin a rest until the next season.
There are people out there who go in every day, and I can promise you that's NOT good. If they don't end up with skin cancer, they will, at the very least end up looking like shoe leather.
I've been tanning this way for about 15 years, and I haven't had any issues at all. I have a couple of friends who are actually 5 or 6 years younger than me who LOOK at least 10 years OLDER because they don't tan responsibility. Moderation is the key to pretty much everything.
Reply:The sales person you speak with will be able to recommend lotion, bed and length of time you should go based on your skin tone.
I wear nothing at all but you might be more confortable wearing underwear
Reply:good luck use darkening lotion it helps
Reply:Exfloiate or at least use your bath poof and scrub your body with your body wash, shave and dont use lotion or oil, you want your skin to not be oily at all. bring petroleum jelly for your palms and nails.
This is if your doing a tan at a salon
Reply:Don't go tanning unless you want cancer later in life. Rember no tanning is safe tanning
Reply:Well make sure u apply some sort of lotion.. go naked.. or topless whatever you feel more comfortable with.. i recommend you dont go in to long for your first time. Dont be disspointed if you dont see any improvement, its your first time.
Reply:The best advice is not to do it. Tanning is only for people who want to show off. A little childish huh?
Besides, it is not good for your skin. You can become wrinkled and dry. Don't do it.
Reply:Why set yourself up for wrinkles and skin cancer?
Reply:You should not stay in the tanning bed long starting out. The person running the tanning salon should look at you and tell you how long you should go. Wear your goggles.
Reply:Tanning causes premature aging when your in your late 30s!
Reply:Save your skin some wrinkles in the future and DON'T GO!
What's better? Being dark....or looking like you're 35 when you're 45?
Reply:i'd say lay 8-10 minutes
lotion w/ hemp in it bronzer if u want but no tingler until you get darker
i don't wear anything tan lines! but if u want take a bikini
flip over half way through your time tans more even people say
Reply:Well, if this is your very first time tanning, you should probably only go for a few minutes (no more then 8-10) trust me, nothing hurts worse then a burn on your nipples or bum if you go too long. I would recommend going topless with panties; go nude if you feel comfortable and don't want pantie lines.
Shave prior to going and exfoliate, pay special attention to your knees and elbows. You want to be sure to sluff off all the dead skin. Moisturized skin tans better/more evenly then dry skin does.
Hawaiian Tropic is a good brand of tanning lotion to use. They have all kinds of lotion depending on how dark you want to get. Because you are just starting out, you may want to stick with a lotion that is medium.
After you tan, be sure to wash all the tanning lotion of and then use a good body moisturizer, it helps with the peeling if you tend to peel.
Reply:Tanning is a very relaxing time. I do it but very moderately. MOST IMPORTANT TIP..... Only 8to 10 minutes first few times!!! I tell my daughter this every year the first time she goes and she never listens and ALWAYS get burnt.
GOOD LUCK and don't let everyone here talking about cancer upset you
Reply:Tanning is really bad for your skin. I have pale-reddish Irish skin and it dried my skin out horribly. I advise you to tan the old-fashioned way. My mother was tanning-crazed and she got skin cancer from it.
Reply:Don't tan, it is trashy and it can give you cancer. You should go pale if you don't have a natural tan. My friends mom and my mom both have skin cancer because of that.
Reply:Your tanning salon will be able to give you the appropriate information on how long to go, how often, and what type of lotion will work for you.
But here's how I would maximize your experience:
*make sure your skin is exfoliated - you want to get as even of a tan as possible
*Moisturize - always
* try using a stand-up every once in a while, to get the tricky to tan spots, such as arm pits, and shoulder blades
*I would wear nothing, it will make your tan look more natural
Remember that it's when you burn your skin that you have a greater risk of skin cancer. When you maintain a tan, you have less of a chance of burning than someone who has no tan.
Moderation is the key - as with everything
Relax and enjoy yourself - I find this time to be very peaceful
Reply:well if your pale skinned (like me) the first time you go, dont use any oils or lotions execpt an after-sun lotion after you are done tanning. only go in for 5-8 minutes otherwise you will burn. you can increase time and put some lotion on after the first 2 or 3 times and you wont burn. good luck!
Reply:Don't get the tingle factor lotions, you will be on fire. If you go to a tanning salon they should tell you everything you need to know. But I tan every summer, I have finally learned to start out slow like 7 minutes and very gradually move up so you won't burn or peel. Also I like the tanning lotions with a bronzer in it. I tryed a sample of a lotion called Freedom and I loved it. It has silicone in it. It felt so good. But it was $56, so I went with a cheaper lotion. If you can afford it I'd suggest it.
Reply:I owned a tanning salon before I moved to Tennessee, let me start by telling you to be sure to go to a tanning salon, and not just a place to tan. There is a big difference. A tanning salon that focuses on the customers well being, will not just put you in a bed to burn you. Burn is where you can seriously damage your skin. They will start you out with a time limit that suits your skin type, and will also recommend a step one lotion to help accelerate your tan. If you have friends that use a tingle factor lotion, please do not think you can start out using that, Tingle factors are for use only after you have a nice base tan, not for beginning tanners. I recommend anything by Designer Skin. Worship me is a really good lotion, as well as Speed of Light. There are too many for me to list, but any of the Designer Skin (non-tingle factor) will be suitable for you. Exfoliate your skin before tanning, that way, you are tanning new skin each time. Keep your skin moisturized, and ALWAYS wear your eye protection, that is the most important thing to do. Your eyelids are not thick enough to protect your eyes. So gl and happy tanning.
