When using a tanning bed, should you leave the lotion on after tanning or is it okay to wash it off?

don't bath, swim, shower for at LEAST an hour after tanning. if you do then you're just cooling your skin down and the tan won't set in.

You can wash it off but maybe it would be better if you didn't. There is no where that says that you can not bath after tanning.
Reply:surely best to wash off any lotion after used eventually or it could affect your skin
Reply:i dont know but tanning beds are dAngerous and cause cancer i prefer you to use spf15 or higher
Reply:Leave it on... don't take a shower for at least 1-2 hours. You want your body to absorb everything so that your tan lasts.
Reply:It is definitely o.k to wash it off. It is better to wash it off than to leave it longer than necessary. Once you are finished your tan you should be able to do anything, once your tanning lotion was what it said it was.
Reply:The purpose of the tanning lotion is to protect you from to much exposure to UV radiation. It is the production of melanin in the skin that darkens it, not the lotion (except for the one type of lotion that dyes the skin). Once the tanning session is over, the lotion is no longer serving that particular funciton, although it is keeping your skin moist.

Vitamin D production occurs in the skin by exposure to UV radiation along with perspiration. This chemical reaction takes a little while. How little I'm not sure, but if you waited 20 minutes before washing off the lotion, I think you'd be giving your body plenty of time to make Vitamin D.
