I don't think it has much to do with your race, just your genes. Anyone's melanin can form to protect the skin unless they lack it altogether.

I am polish and I am white. I can get a tan it just takes me a little longer than everyone else. GOOD LUCK!!!

Reply:It really has not too much to do with your ethnic background. It has too do with your genes and melonin. DON'T go in the tanning bed everyday. It is SO bad for your skin and your health. I'm 23 and one of my best friend already has skin cancer because she went on a daily basis. So only go once and a while and use lotion....same goes with outdoors. Try using the self tanning gel. I have friends who can't tan at all either and they use that and it works well. Good Luck!
